Yopal, named for the indigenous Yopo tree (Anadenanthera peregrina),is located at the terminus of the Eastern Range of the ColombianAndesin the Colombian plains (llanos). Its climate is more similar to the Caribbean cities ofBaranquillaandCartagena, but with less humidity.
