About Viking (Alberta)
Viking, population 990 (2021) is approximately120km (75mi)east ofEdmonton. The town also lends its name to the Viking Formation, an oil bearing stratigraphical unit. It was settled in 1909 by Scandinavian settlers from Norway and is largely and agricultural community. Viking is also home to the Sutter family, an ice hockey family from which six brothers played professional hockey in the NHL.
