About Tolyatti
Tolyatti was named after Palmiro Togliatti, anItaliancommunist. It is the headquarters of Lada, a major Russian automobile manufacturer. The population is approximately 720,000, of which 110,000 are employed by Lada. In the 1950s, when the population was 12,000, the entire city was moved to its present location to allow for construction of the Zhiguli Hydroelectric Station.
