About Tierp
Tierp developed as a railway town after the 1874 construction of Tierp Train Station along theUppsala–Gävlerailway, and quickly became the main settlement of northernUppsala County. In the early 17h century northern Uppland was settled by skilledWalloonimmigrants, who helped develop the area into a mining and industrial centre, sometimes considered part ofBergslagen. Tierp has remained an industrial centre until this day, and major industries in the settlement include the industrial tools manufacturerAtlas Copco, andTierps Järnbruk, most famous for producing manhole covers.
