About Susaki
The town has a mascot, Shinjo-kun — that is, a Japanese otter. The Japanese otter has been pronounced as extinct in Japan by the Japanese government in 2012. It is said that the Shinjo River is the last river in Japan where the Japanese otter was sighted.
