The South East is an economically prosperous region and almost every part of it is within commuting distance ofLondon. As such, much of its economy and infrastructure is focused on serving the capital. Because of the population's transitory nature, there is a much weaker regional identity here than is apparent in other regions such as theWest MidlandsorYorkshire, with people identifying more closely with their home town or county than being "from the South East".
