Somolu local government was formed May 27, 1976 from the former Mushin District Council as a direct result of the traditional rulers and upper class of the Somolu region lobbying for autonomy. It used to be named Mushin East Local Government Area. The wet season is heavy while the dry season is sometimes cloudy, and it is hot and the weather is harsh all year round.
