About Saugerties
Because of its proximity toWoodstock, Saugerties is famous for the event it never hosted. The Woodstock Music & Art Fair: "An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music" was held on August 15-18, 1969 at Max Yasgur's dairy farm near White Lake in Bethel NY after being turned away from Wallkill in Orange County NY. A blatantly-commercial “Woodstock 1994” event, intended to cash in on the 25th anniversary of the original festival, did take place on an 840-acre farm in Saugerties.
