The municipality of Saint-Jean-Baptiste was incorporated in 1797. The village of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is surrounded by agricultural plains which are crossed from north to south by the Rivière des Hurons. Routes 227 (west side of the river) and 229 (east side) run along the Rivière des Hurons; the development of colonization having taken place on each side of this river.
