About Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu
The parish of Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue was canonically erected in 1750 on land belonging to the seigniory of Contrecoeur. In 1921, Saint-Antoine was split into two separate municipalities: the village of Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue and the parish of Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu. In 1982, the two municipalities were reunified under the name of Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu. Sir Georges-Étienne Cartier, one of the fathers of the Canadian Confederation of 1867, was born in Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu.
