About Royal Way of Prague
The first monarch to use the Royal Way for his coronation was Albert II of Habsburg in 1438. In the next 400 years almost all rulers followed in his tracks. The last one was Ferdinand I of Austria who was crowned in 1836. Since the 16th century, when the permanent seat of Czech kings moved toVienna, the Royal Way was used also for official visits of the king in the Czech capital. For those Habsburgs who are buried in the St. Vitus cathedral in the Prague Castle, the Royal Way was also their last journey ever.
