About Rogaland
Rogaland is the county on both sides of the wide Boknafjorden, as well as the valleys, uplands and smaller fjords to the east. The county consists of several distinct parts. Stavanger is the main city and sits on the northern end of the Jæren flatlands. Stavanger together with adjacent towns Sola, Sandnes and Randaberg is the third largest urban area in Norway with some 230,000 inhabitants (as of 2020), behind Bergen and Oslo. These towns are governed as independent municipalities and not officially regarded as one city but are often just referred to as Stavanger. Sandnes and Stavanger have practically merged and the city line is barely visible as the most densely built up area is the business district around the city line.
