About Provideniya
Provideniya, one of the easternmost towns in Russia, has a population slightly under 2,000. At 64 degrees north, it is extremely close to the Arctic circle. Provideniya has an Arctic climate. Although temperatures can pass 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21.1 degrees Celsius) in mid-summer, temperatures generally stay below 60 (15.6 degrees Celsius) and above -10 degrees Fahrenheit (-23.3 degrees Celsius). Precipitation is mid-range, being about 30 inches (762mm), although much of this is snow.
