Porto Velho Travel Guide — Things to Do, Food & Hotels
the capital of the Brazilian state of Rondônia, in the upper Amazon River basin
About Porto Velho
Porto Velho started to exist about 1910, with the start of the construction of the Madeira-Mamoré railway. As a city, it's fairly young. Don't expect to see colonial architecture or old buildings. For exploration, rent a car for a few days as there is no tourist infrastructure whatsoever. You will need local help in finding the interesting places, as there is no formal tourist office.
