About Piscataway
In 1666, a group of European settlers coming fromNew Hampshireacquired 40,000 acres (16,000 ha) of land that had been occupied by the native Lenape. After the creation of East Jersey, the first proprietary Governor of the Province of East Jersey, Philip Carteret, granted these settlers from New England a 100-square-mile allotment of land that was later founded as the townships ofPiscatawayandWoodbridge. It had a population of about 57,000 in 2019.
