Pategi is in Kwara State, the north-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The main occupations of the Pategi people are farming and fishing. They are governed by a monarch. The settlement of Pategi had existed before the founding of Pategi Emirate, but the growth and importance of Pategi grew as a result of the movement of the Edegi ruling house from Gbara andBidato Pategi, forming a new emirate. Pategi as a town was founded by the king of the Nupe people in the late 16th century coined from a name meaning "small hill". In 1898, it became the capital of Pategi Emirate.
