About Okitipupa
Okitipupa town used to be known as "Ode-Idepe". The name "Okitipupa" originated from the elevation of the town and the red colour of the soil. Okiti means "hilly land," while pupa means "red," and the combination of the two led to the formation of the new name. It was however a result of the frequent usage by travellers and traders who journeyed down from other communities to trade in the central market of the town, and rather than referring to the town by its name, they merely described its physical landscape. Today, the inhabitants use the names Okitipupa and Idepe interchangeably. Okitipupa has a Tropical wet and dry or savanna climate.
