About Noveleta
Noveleta once formed a large barrio (present-day barangay) of Kawit and parts of Cavite City, until it was separated from it in 1868. It is a small town, with only about16km(6.2sqmi)of land, surrounded by Cavite City and Manila Bay to the north, Kawit to the east,General Triasto the south, and Rosario to the west. Noveleta's name by folk etymology derived from the words a Spanish soldier who shouted in Spanish¡Madre de Diós, no Violeta!(roughly translates as "O Mother of God, my Violeta!) after a lovely woman named Violeta was forced by her father to marry him against her will and then committed suicide, but a more plausible origin of the name is a corruption of Nueva Lete (new fate). The barrio was originally named Tierra Alta, in contrast to the lower Cavite La Punta (present Cavite City
