About Newburgh (New York)
Located on the west banks of the mighty Hudson River with a population of 28,856 in 2020, Newburgh is a city with a long history. Once an important retail and industrial community on the river some60mi (97km)north of theCity of New York, Newburgh fell on hard times during the latter half of the 20th century, when the city's industrial base diminished, racial conflicts began heating up, and the urban renewal projects designed to combat the issues in the 1960s and 1970s ran into trouble. Despite all this, Newburgh is home to many incredible historic landmarks and some absolutely breathtaking views of the Hudson and the surrounding area. It is also a very diverse community, rich in many different cultures, and is home to Mount Saint Mary College – an excellent liberal arts college.
