About Muara
The town is home to Muara Port, the country's primary port. Muara used to be called Brooketon, after Charles Brooke, the king ofSarawakduring the period when it was ruled by a private British before the establishment ofMalaysiain 1963. During this time, Muara was under Brooke's rule and known for its coal mining industry.
