About Mount Tai
Tai Shan (Peace Mountain) is one of the five Daoist sacred mountains in China. Because of its history it is the most climbed mountain in China. Tai Shan has been climbed by many people important in Chinese history. The emperors of great dynasties had to climb the mount to show that they were the sole ruler of the country. Mount Tai was inscribed as aUNESCO World Heritage Sitein 1987; it is one of only two sites to fulfill seven out of the ten criteria to become a world heritage site, with the other being theTasmanian WildernessinTasmania. Mount Tai is in the north ofTai'ancity, in the middle ofShandongprovince.
