Metro Batangas houses many major industries, shopping centers and higher education institutions. It was once considered one of the nine recognized metropolitan areas of the Philippines, until it was reduced to the four major areas,Metro Manila,Metro Cebu,Metro Iloilo–GuimarasandMetro Davao. The area has grown significantly enough to become a large metro area, but Batangas City still has a provincial town feel. The skyline is dominated by Mount Banoy and Pinamucan to the south and Mount Maculot to the north; there are a few emerging high-rises and many industrial areas facing the bay within the urbanized areas of Batangas City, San Pascual and Bauan. The metropolitan area has appoximately 700,000 people as of 2020. Residents are mostly Tagalog, Visayan, and Bicolano, with a Filipino Chinese
