About Matinhos
The colonization of Matinhos began in the middle of the 19th century, when the Carijós Indians inhabited the Paraná coast, discovered in 1820 by Frenchman Augusto de Saint'Hilaire. Its first name was Matinho, the name of the river in the town, and its first settlers were Portuguese and Italians, who founded a farming colony. In 1927, theEstrada do Marhighway was inaugurated, connectingParanaguáto Praia de Leste, which brought various families, mostly Germans, to settle in Matinhos.
