About Marielyst
Although the permanent population is only about 725 (2021), there are over 6000 holiday summer homes. Other localities along the beach are Eikenøre, Sildestrup, Stovby, Klit, and Bøtø with Marielyst at the centre. During the summer period, the population rises to over 50,000 in the high season, when the neighbouring settlements Bøtø, Elkenøre, Stovby and Sildestrup are included. Behind the sand dunes along the beach, there is a dyke which was built at the end of the 19th century to protect the inland area from flooding, enabling it to be used for farming.
