About Mapungubwe National Park
Mapungubwe National Park is centred on the Mapungubwe Hill, once the capital of the eponymous kingdom. The landscape consists of sandstone formations and different kinds of forest and the park is also an archaeological site. In the national park you can encounter animals emblematic of Africa such as elephants, lions, Nile crocodiles, giraffes and antelopes. There are around 400 bird species in the park. The vegetation is dominated by baobab trees.
