Although it may have the same spelling as the city of Houston in Texas, unlike that name, the name of this street is actually pronouncedHOW-stun. You will be understood if you pronounce it wrongly, but that will instantly mark you out as an ignorant outsider. Most of Manhattan is laid out in a grid. By convention, Manhattan is spoken of as if it runs north to south (it's actually northeast to southwest), withstreetsrunning east-west andavenuesrunning north-south. This makes it relatively easy and straightforward to find your way.
