About Lubang
There are two municipalities, Lubang to the north and Looc to the south. Lubang Town is the only substantial town. It is inland from Tilik Port, the main entryway to the island. This is a fairly isolated area. The lastPacific WarJapanese soldier still fighting in the Philippines surrendered in 1974 on Lubang Island. Lieutenant Hiro Onoda was an intelligence officer ordered to take a squad into the jungle, live on coconuts if necessary, and harass the enemy as much as possible; 30 years later he was the only survivor.
