26 kilometres away fromSeinäjoki, Lapua is located in the heart of South Ostrobothnia. This city with 14,500 inhabitants is a peaceful place – although the region had many of the violentpuukkojunkkariin the 19th century and played a role in the Civil War, and Lapua itself was where the infamous Lapua Movement of 1929–1932 was born – with its landscape dominated by rivers, forests, wide fields and the Simpsiö hill, one of the best ski centres in Western Finland. The city provides excellent opportunities for both sport and cultural interests, and plenty of different events are arranged in the city throughout the year.
