About Kumano Kodo
The Kumano Kodo have been in use for over 1,000 years by pilgrims travelling between the many sacred sites on the Kii Peninsula. The centre of this sacred area were the Kumano Sanzan, a collection of three sacred shrines. These shrines are the🌍Hongu TaishainHongu,🌍Hayatama TaishainShingu, and🌍Nachi TaishainNachikatsuura. The Kumano Kodo was not just a way to travel to these shrines but it was also its own religious experience as pilgrims would have to pass through harsh mountainous terrain. Depending on the route you choose to travel the journey can take between two days to half a month.
