Kebnekaise is the highest mountain in a larger mountainous area between Nikkaluokta andAbisko(Šielmmačohkka 2004 m, Godučohkka 1997, Ádjni 1755, Nissončorru 1738). To the south-west is theLaponianational park complex and to the north-east several large protected fell forest areas. The name Kebnekaise is formed from Lule Sámigiebnne(cauldron) andgájsse(high and pointy peak).
