About Istaravshan

In 2000, the Tajik government changed the name of the city from earlier Uroteppa (Tajik: Ӯротеппа; Ura-Tyube, Russian: Ура-Тюбе). Istaravshan is a city-museum, an ancient center of trade and crafts, and one of the oldest cities in Central Asia, dating from the 6th century BCE. In 2020, it was home to 273,000 people.
