Inner Mongolia is officially known as theInner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is one of five autonomous regions within thePeople's Republic of China. Under Chinese law, autonomous regions are entitled to more rights and privileges — such as implementing their own economic policies, and declaring additional official languages — but they have no legal right to secede. Inner Mongolia is a large region stretched across the northern edge of China. It has a relatively low population density the majority of which are Han Chinese.
