About Indonesian national parks
The first nature conservation areas in Indonesia were established during the Dutch colonial time. Nature reserves were expanded through the decades, and the first five national parks were established in 1980. New national parks have been added regularly, with the latest addition being Mount Tambora National Park inSumbawain 2015. Of the 52 Indonesian national parks, 6 are listed on theUNESCO World Heritage List. Nine of the parks are largely marine.
