In both speech and writing (for example on postal addresses), Hampshire's name is often abbreviated toHants. Although part of theSouth Eastregion of England, Hampshire is actually midway along the south coast between east and west. Clockwise from the west, it is bordered by the counties ofDorset,Wiltshire,Berkshire,Surrey, andWest Sussex.
