About Halifax Region
Halifax Regional Municipality occupies an area of almost 5,500 km² which is approximately 10% of the total land area of Nova Scotia, making it about the same size as the province of Prince Edward Island. It has a population of 403,000 people (2016), 43% of the total of the province of Nova Scotia. The regional municipality consists of four former municipalities that were amalgamated in 1996: Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, and Halifax County.
