mountain in Mongolia
About Gobi Gurvan Saikhan Natural Park
Mongolian sakura or almonds bloom in Gobi Gurvansaikhan mountain in spring at the end of April. There is a strange formation in Baruun Saikhan Mountain where mantle rocks from 400 million years ago are exposed. It is surrounded by areas with the richest deposits of dinosaurs, such as Bayanzag, Togrog Shiree, Khermentsav, Bugi tsav, and Guril tsav. The park is a haven for some endangered species like the argali sheep, snow leopard and Siberian ibex. The eponymous mountains of the park are inhabited by the magnificent lammergeier, or bearded vulture. The eastern range of the park supports the endangered Saker Falcon and has been designated an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International.
