Friedrichstadt Travel Guide — Things to Do, Food & Hotels
town in the district of Nordfriesland, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
About Friedrichstadt
Friedrichstadt was founded as a planned community in the 17th century to house religious refugees from the Netherlands. While it never achieved the grandiose plans of becoming a big city, it did attract subsequent waves of immigration and attained a reputation for remarkable religious tolerance which can still be seen in churches of numerous different denominations. The urban design is also remarkably "dutch" with waterways reminiscent of the canals ofAmsterdam.
