About Duisburg
Contemporary Duisburg is a result of numerous incorporations of surrounding towns and smaller cities. It is the twelfth-largest city in Germany and the fifth-largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia. The core city was founded in the 5th century AD as a marketplace on the WestphalianHellwegtrade route, a ford on the river Rhine and the border between the Frankish Empire and the Duchy of Saxons.
