About Chiautempan
Chiautempan has a long history, with rural populations settling in the area more than 1,000 years ago. The town was founded in 1380 by the indigenous Teochichimeca people. The Franciscans were the first Spanish to invade the town in 1524. More Spanish followed and the town's two oldest churches were both built in the 16th century. Railroads came to town in 1869 and the first textile plants were built in the early 20th century. The city sits at an altitude of 2280 meters, giving it a temperate climate. The wettest months are July through September.
