Fauna species found in Bhitarkanika include: saltwater crocodiles, olive ridley turtles, kingfishers, several varieties of birds, pythons, monitor lizards, wild boar, hyenas, spotted deer, wildcats and jungle fowl. Flora is in the form of mangrove species. There are over 60 varieties of mangrove species in Bhitarkanika, more than what you can find even in Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forests. Best season: October–March Monsoons are just amazing here. Once access roads (under construction) are built, Bhitarkanika (on Dangmal side) can be a real good place to explore and enjoy monsoon.
