About Baixada Fluminense
The Baixada Fluminense region is the immediate periphery ofRio de Janeiro. Its urban area sprawled along the suburban train lines and the main highways of thecapitaland its continuous surrounding areas. This expansion occurred more intensely along axes towards Itaguaí, in the west, Paracambi, in the northwest, and Duque de Caxias, in the north (following later towards Guapimirim, in the northeast). The region is located in the wide lowlands area to the north of thecentral municipalityand to the south of the mountain range known asSerra do Mar, and includes the municipalities of Guapimirim, Magé, Duque de Caxias, São João de Meriti, Belford Roxo, Nilópolis, Mesquita, Nova Iguaçu, Queimados, Japeri, Paracambi, Seropédica and Itaguaí.
