About Attica
Attica is a peninsula, at the southernmost point of central Greece, sticking out into the Aegean Sea. The Attica region is, in an official sense, the peninsula with the island section. Mainland Attica is correspondent with the Athens metropolitan area. Its population is about 4 million people. The region is physically divided from Boeotia by the16km (9.9mi)-long Kithairon mountain range, to the north. The peninsula is separated by mountains into the plains of Pedia, Mesogeia, and Thriasia. The mountains include Hymettus, the eastern portion of Geraneia, Parnitha, Aigaleo and the Penteli mountains.
