About Abyei
The town is heavily disputed betweenSouth SudanandSudan. There is no reason for travellers to come here, and it is very unsafe. Abyei was traditionally inhabited by people of the Dinka ethnic group. In the late 2000s, the Second Sudanese Civil War took its toll and most of the Dinka have fled the town, which has now been occupied and razed by northern Sudanese forces.
